They were young, they loved to party..
Every day, every night.. they were barely twenty..
Once came in for alcohol intoxication, once for pancreatitis..
Counseled them, to not drink so much.. a slow poison after all, it is..
Another episode, followed by yet another…
Alcohol was not just occasional, it was to them now a daily eye opener..
Recommended rehab & prescribed pills to abstain, for it was damaging the pancreas, brain & liver..
But they were re-admitted now known to everyone as an alcoholic frequent flyer..
bleeding & oozing.. and the cells were way too low to help clotting..
red was the blood, yellow bodies.. they were making no sense, as the body’s waste they weren’t excreting..
They looked frail, so much older than what they were.. no more youth suddenly..
Only a fluid filled belly, hard to get down.. though aspirating it almost daily..
Family had abandoned them.. only drinking buddies would occasionally visit..
None of them were in shape too, to accept their lewd defeat..
Died they, no one to grieve by their bed or shed a tear..
Was this a life.. they began it all to only enjoy every moment they were here..
But alcohol didn’t give them a chance, drowned in it they..
Excess of anything’s bad.. & yes, this bad, is why they say..

Thank you Kunal. Believe it or not, counseling is an essential part of patient management and we do our best to get our point through. But when it comes to substance abuse, similar scenarios as above unfortunately are not just a few that we encounter!
