‘‘I’ll shoot everyone
You understand miss, but only if I’d long ago decided to not anymore keep a gun
They brought me here thinking I’m crazy
You guys are, you gotta know that obviously!’’,
said a patient, quadriplegic for 12 years now, from a few gun shots to his spine
Furious and frustrated he seemed, after all, he was just 29
“Why didn’t they just kill me, for though alive, I died years ago
Wounds are scarred, but wouldn’t heal ever this throe”
Baker-acted he was several times, diagnosed with mental illness
No records but found, prior to the incident, questioning his wellness
Shocked probably he was, in denial, then anger followed so naturally
He hasn’t accepted the unfortunate tragedy he went through still apparently
He said, ‘’we all have had guns, it’s been legal
To protect ourselves and in defense if needed, to kill”
For he’d been shot by someone who’d stolen a gun from his father’s unlocked drawer
He was mad at this girl who he thought was responsible in ruining his career
‘’He was a high school dropout.. he was sadly ill
Not formally ever sought help though, as they’d isolate you if you were to carry a psychiatric disorder label
Why is mental illness such a taboo.. why can’t it be like just another physical disorder?
Am I ashamed of my disability, my handicap today.. I’d get myself fixed if there was an option rather
But we, insane beings, are who turn these helpless people into monsters
Who challenge themselves and us, taking away lives, is all to them then that matters
May a gun when necessary, be handy, I don’t disagree..
If only practice gun control though we!
On this bed I lay today, I am nothing but a burden
Just because someone sick got ahold of a weapon, I bear this aftermath & killed were more than a dozen
It’s high time you do something doctor..
My words they won’t listen to, admitted I am to the behavioral heath floor..
As much as I hate my life today, I once wanted to live
But death now seems better, at least in my own body I wouldn’t be held captive
Make screening and treatment available for the mentally ill, spread awareness
for society in a timely manner, to help identify and the right resources access
Speak up I plead, don’t let more feasible than help be violence
Or maybe you wouldn’t, unless soon with your own loved ones what I’ve been through or worse happen…”
For just as common a cold is, mental illness is as much an ailment
Alas, exist plenty still redundant options for the former though, the latter is entombed deep.. deprived of treatment!
