A kiss on my gloved hand today..

What brightened my day today was, when I could spoon-feed my 80 something year old, sweetheart patient with advanced dementia, about 5 cups of puréed fruits and pudding..

And that she kept it all down just fine.

And proved everyone wrong, that she didn’t need a gastrostomy!

But what I was lucky enough to earn was, that she barely being able to move her extremities herself, said thanks, making an effort to extend and hold my fingers, taking them all the way gradually to her mouth, pouting those numerous, soft wrinkles reflecting an era of happy experiences, now partially covered with pudding and applesauce, into a kiss landing on my gloved hand, followed by a million dollar smile… making an eye contact with me, with those sunken, wise, yet now so naive eyes, although so old, yet reminding me of an innocent little baby, going across my mask, through my eyes, her kiss melted the core of my heart..
