To pray neither
To worship nor
To church went ever
For he believed
in a world
free of religion or creed
while still living, he said
why look for God,
live for those
who the heart loves
the treasured ones
religiously though indeed
at 93 he’d visit beloved
his kids in their 70s
one day fractured his pelvis
mentation altered
diagnosed with COVID
Catheters, lines, sedated
to protect his airway, intubated
trials to wean
in vein
Tubes to feed
comfort care planned
And on the news,
another life COVID claims
just as a number we see
pandemic associated mortality
Oh we’re fine, not us
Our age group it spares
a bunch more soon
younger people too are gone
Deaths
countless
people leaving
someone’s everything
Even the guy
Elderly,
The 93 year old,
was still a Dad,
He’d live a 100 years
hoped loved ones
just as
numerous others..
As died
alike young and old
wiped out lives
blindly the virus
I can only imagine
their pain
I witness
I can’t justify still on other basis
Of advanced age, or comorbidities
Someone’s sudden demise
Lifelong grief another’s
The vulnerable, old, sick, prone to illness..
about the one who didn’t survive, we convince ourselves
a calamity is COVID-19
A death by which no matter when
to someone, a melancholy
To anyone, the end is untimely
