She questioned
the stars that disappeared
every dawn
with a promise though unspoken,
that they’ll be back again tonight,
when there’ll be no more light,
when she’d dwell in slumber
with him that night like every other..
Trust shattered
Vows they’d taken seemed unpurposed
As they lay dead
Along with her husband,
why then the stars kept their word,
with unspoken darkness loyal by her side?
This time though she wasn’t afraid
If she’d be again betrayed
But rather hoped
That just as he did
One day the night endless
Also would die perhaps..
And until then, she’d battle
this ironically long life for her as if eternal,
Rudderless
in darkness
Looking for her husband
And peace, deceased
For why triumphed
words unsaid
She questioned
the stars that disappeared
